Europe will unveil this week its roadmap for the development of clean hydrogen-based technologies . On Tuesday, March 10, Brussels will present its alliance for the development of hydrogen technologies, which is articulated as a partnership across member states to accelerate carbon neutrality. It is through the signing of this alliance that the European Union will try to get ahead of China not only in the development of new technologies based on hydrogen but also in the development of trade and competition policies, according to the Financial Times . The initiative is part of Europe's industrial strategy, led by Commissioner Thierry Breton, which considers that hydrogen could become an indispensable energy source for sectors such as aviation or transport .
The plan follows the example of the battery technology alliance presented last year and which had a financial allocation of 3.2 billion euros. The objective of this initiative is to reduce carbon emissions derived from the use of fossil fuels in different industries that could operate with an alternative and clean energy source .
In fact, more and more companies are showing interest in using hydrogen given the increasing restrictions of governments in terms of emissions. At the moment, the development of this technology is still in its infancy and its cost is exorbitant, which is why both the aviation and transportation sectors have asked governments for help to contribute to the development of this technology.
