Summer was a beautiful time on the coast. The salty smell of the sea burned your nostrils in a pleasant way, and the sounds of small waves lapping at the shore was soothing. Of course, the most wonderful thing was the bright sun, that warmed your back as you stood on the beach with water tickling your hooves. That was how you'd find Kallisto that fateful morning. She'd been apart of the herd of Tyriel for some time, but in usual Kallisto fashion, had failed to get to know any of the other members all that much. In fact, she'd pretty much avoided talking to everyone of the the entire time, only communicating when absolutely necessary. Of course, she didn't spend all her time being lazy and hiding from work either, no she was a hard working type of horse, and her duties were always completed in a timely and thorough fashion.
Today was her lazy day though, and the beach seemed a wonderful resting place. On such a fine day, there was always the danger that some other equine from the herd might have the same idea, but it was a small herd at the moment and everyone else would probably be busy. Lucky for the chestnut mare, it was her day free of duties, and she intended to spend it under the sun. Hopefully alone, though one never knew who might show up.

It was hard to keep his mind from reeling back to the situation that was surely growing. The Divine alliance needed numbers. Felix was surely plotting against Laermeluion and his lands. It irriated him immensely with how his numbers lacked. Was he a bad leader? Did others not wish to join him in his stand against the Demonic king? He was unsure of what was happening outside his lands and that bothered him. Laer knew he must venture out and recruit the many equines that littered the lands in search of a home, a purpose. And he was here to give them one.
However so far, the painted King felt as though he were failing. He didn't want to be known as a weak leader or anything of the sort. He wanted to be the one other called upon for help. His father before him was a great leader and he did not wish to dispoint his father even if his father was laying in his grave. No, he was probably rolling over in his grave with how things were going so far. Thoughts of his father brought a frown to his lips. Laer's father was such a good ruler and had gained the respect of the many alliance members. However, over the years under Laer's rule things changed and not completely for the better. It bothered him and he wished to change things.
But where to start? His lands were barren of other life. A few other souls roamed the lands but it was quiet. He had not spoken to anyone in many days and he knew he needed to change it. He needed to be a better leader and more in tune with the members that called his lands home. Not only that however, Laer needed to go out and make his presence known among the many other souls of the lands. He would start today. Snorting, Laermeluion made his way from his perch and down into his vast lands. Reaching the flasts, he took in a deep breath, the salty air made his way to his naress. A nice splash in the warm waters seemed like something that he needed. The waters always seemed bring his mind to ease.
Hooves landing upon moist soil soon fell upon warm sand. His eyes closed for a moment as his body ceased its movement. He stood there tall and proud and let the breeze blow through his locks. Laer listened closely to the sounds around him. The birds chirping, the water crashing and . . a familiar scent. His eyes shot open as he looked around. It had been some time since he had seen the other members of his herd and Laer felt as if he had betrayed and abandoned them. He struck his large hoof into the sand, spraying it all around. Not anymore. This was the end. He would no longer be such a horrible leader and make his father proud, starting now.
He walked out of the brush and into the warm sun, his warm pools landing upon the pretty little mare Kallisto. Laer didn't really know much about her and he wished to change that. He felt awful as she had been in his herd now for some time and he barely knew her. Again, he failed at being a good ruler. He snorted quietly as he walked up to the mare. "Hello there Kallisto. I do hope you are enjoying yourself today." He gave her a warm and friendly smile, trying to make her feel comfortable, yet he wasn't sure on how good of a job he was even doing.
