dawn shattered over the horizon, casting splintered rays of light through the trees the creature watched within. she watched with smoldering amber eyes as the blue haze of early morning hung in the atmosphere. silence was all that could be heard, so serene, so tranquil, as though nobody knew of her inner turmoil. her darkness and her light; the way she was torn and ripped in half by what had happened to her and how she was dealing with it. it was just too damn quiet, and yet wasn't that how xena liked it? no busy, irritating fools shrieking and flinging themselves about the land. there was something so excruciatingly painful about this beautiful location, as though it reminded her of an older happier time.
nostalgia was something the paint femme often dealt with, but the brief feeling of happiness left her feeling empty and distraught. there was no inner solace for xena, there was no place she could turn to for refuge for she had only herself. she was trapped in her body; her cage. with a heavy, unfathomable sigh her slender limbs passed forward into movement. she traveled silently, stepping out onto the dawn-lit beach before pausing a moment. head raised to the colorful sky, curled ebonite tresses dancing in the wind, xena could not have felt more alone. more bitter.

It was the epitemy of all that was good. The sun in the morning rose bright and warm and kissed the lands. The rays would keep the lands bright and warm throughout the day and finally falling in the horizon in the evening, creating some of the more amazing sunsets the large grey overo stallion had ever seen. Those were his two favorite times of the day and always made it to a spot in the lands that he could see the sun rise and fall. Dual colored eyes watched with great amazement at the lands that he now called home and ruled over. He couldn't believe how lucky he had become and couldn't wait to share with others what an amazing place Tyriel really was.
Laermeluion made his way as silently through the dense jungle that provided the shelter Laer and his herd would need during storms and other things. The sounds of the birds and other creatures that had survived rang through the high tree tops. It was like music to the studs ears. The sun was peeking over the horizon in the distance, creating an almost picturesque scene. The rays of the sun began to find their ways through the trees, brightening up the once darkened jungle. A small smile appeared on his lips as he enjoyed the sight he was seeing.
As Laermeluion walked through the pathways in the jungle, the sweet aroma of a mare entered his nostils. Breathing in deeply, the sweet pungent smell filled his lungs. Not only was he excited to have a mare in his presence but there was another equine in his lands. This made him happy for he only wished to share his home with others. Ears pricked foward, Laermeluion had stopped walking and was standing still, silence seemed to fill in around him. He listened for the sound of the other but heard nothing. He knew she was there though, her scent was strong. Laer was not far behind.
Making his way further towards the edge of the jungle to the beach, he seemed to find the tracks of the mare in question. His steps were light as he followed. Soon, the sight of the newly lit beach entered his vision. And then the mare. Her coloration and markings made him smile. Being one of such markings it made him happy to see others with such as well. She seemed like a petite mare but something was off. There seemed to be a sadness or something about her. The way her head raised to the sky. This had sparked Laermeluion's interest. So finally, after deciding to show himself, his muscular legs carried his dapple grey painted body from the brush. His eyes watched her, watching how the new sunlight danced upon her frame. Quietly he made his way towards her and then speaking softly, his voice smooth as caramel, "I see I am not the only one who sees the beauty of the sky." He moved in closer but stopped a little ways away, not wanting to go to close and make her feel to uncomfortable.

the mare could almost hear his voice on the gentle breeze, the way he used to giggle. xylem had loved the sea, the sand and the sky; his little face used to light up with joy when he heard they were visiting the beach again. the coloured mare shook her head once, as if to rid her mind of these painful thoughts, shudders wracked her frame like lightning bolts. part of xena said '' turn away now, before it consumes you '', and yet another said '' just enjoy it while it lasts ''. the small equine inhaled a deep, full breath and sighed.
"I see I am not the only one who sees the beauty of the sky.'' the voice broke both her interior and exterior silence, and one could almost see xena physically shrink in her stone cold shell, her refuge. no sound came from her nares or larynx but she immediately whipped her head and body around to face the stranger. of course, she should have noticed the strong masculine scent that lined the territory! the overo lady was trespassing.
despite the fact that xena was in the wrong here, an instinctual defensive gleam shone in the mare's burning amber eyes. though they were smoldering hot there was a distinct icy sheen, the light bouncing off the cold surface. audits laced into her ebonite and ivory streaked mane, shoulders hunched higher and neck snaked a little lower, the fae eyed up her opponent. the stallion was an overo very like her, except his colouring was an ashen grey and he towered way above her. there must have been some shire in his blood, that was for sure. xee lifted her skull a little, as if to compensate for her almost pony-like height.
he did not seem to pose any immediate threat, from his smooth words and unassuming body language but she knew better than to accept first appearances. for a while they simply stood there, one small and defensive, the other tall and peaceful. at first, the bay dun felt inclined to simply walk away but then that would be similar to running away which was certainly not something a mare like xena did. there was no hint of her prior depression, only a hard frozen mask that stared up at the king. finally she acknowledged his words, her voice harsh and bitter. " beauty is naught but fleeting and deceitful. "

She was turned around and was looking at him. The seriousness in her face was striking. His dual toned eyes looked over the mare quickly, not to draw too much attention to his wandering gazes. Laer was a respectful stallion and did not wish to cross any lines with the mare. Even if she was on his lands, he would great her as a guest and welcome her with open arms. It's what his mother would have wanted. His mother, a slim cremello mare, was a kind and respectful mare, even given her circumstances. Laer wanted to make his mother proud and prove to other mares that stallion were not the demons they thought they were, even if some really truely were the devils on Earth. That would not change who he was.
As the large grey overo stallion looked over her, he noticed how she sort of took a defensive look. Ears twitched as he listened closely to her and their surroundings. Laer was always cautious, however, being in his lands, he put more focus on the mare in front of him. Studying her. Taking in everything about her that was possible at that moment. Her eyes held such an intensity that Laer wasn't really sure what to say about that. The stallion seemed to notice her watching him as well, taking in her own thoughts about him. She was a small petite mare but pretty nonetheless. He only hoped she would give him a chance.
Moments passed as Laer waited for the mare to say or do something. She stood there, almost seemign to be unsure of what to do or say herself. The stud tried to seem less of a threat as he tilted a hoof up and let out a relaxed sigh, bringing his head down slightly as to not seem so tall, if that was possible. He wasn't sure what was going on in her head as her expressions were like stone, unreadable. He was about to say something again but she beat him too it. Her own voice harsh, cold, and bitter. It thought him off as he wasn't expecting her to hold such of a sound. "Beauty is naught but fleeting and deceitful." Head tilted in interest. How could such a beautiful mare hold such anger and her words slice like a knife? Not taking his eyes from her he spoke again, gentle and kind. "It pains me ta' know you think such things. All life holds beauty. You just gotta know where ta' look." He gave a small grin, attempting to lighten the mood. however, he knew better then to think this would be an easy encounter, just from how the mare acted so far.

the longer xena stayed put, her body tense and uptight, the more she desired to leave. the rising sun illuminated her pretty markings but the cold bitterness did not warm with the weather, her harks still plastered backwards flat against her slender dial. the heavier stallion looked her over rapidly, as though he did not wish to anger her further but the mustang did not move a muscle. she was still debating upon turning right around and vanishing back into the forest, exiting his lands for good. it wasn't every day she bumped into another of her species, but that didn't mean she wanted their company. quite the opposite in fact - she was so very wrapped up in her own grief and sadness that there was no room for anybody else in her lonely little life.
xena dropped her gaze slowly, though the fierce protective intensity did anything but fade. she did not want to look at this stranger longer than she had to, it seemed that anybody's face struck a resemblance to him these days; she truly was going insane. a small part of her whispered to relax, not to fend him off and behave like a natural mare meeting a gentile stallion. but then of course, the bay dun remembered she certainly was not normal any longer. normality died the day she let xylem slip beneath the water, for good. and yet as much as she hissed and snarled internally, xena was yet to move, for the petite lady remained exactly where she stood though everything about her body language said ' stay well away, for your own good '.
"It pains me ta' know you think such things. All life holds beauty. You just gotta know where ta' look." once again, the quiet male attempted to engage a conversation with the fae. but this time she did move, backwards three steps until there was even more distance between them than before. who was he to feel anything about her life, and her perspective? xena wanted to know why exactly he was hurt by what she had said, and yet they had quite literally only met moments ago. the paint curled her dark lip in disdain and coldly snapped, "maybe i don't want to look, perhaps i know what's good for me." her tail whipped harshly around her hocks, amber eyes blazing once more; "what's it to you anyway, huh?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,467,true] | [atrb=background,http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/5729/laee.png] Laer didn't understand why the mare was being so defensive. He didn't pose any threat and was trying to show her that he was calm and relaxed, hoping it would help her to relax. Nothing. Her body was tense and he could tell she was uncomfortable. But he was trying his best. Laer really didn't want to make her uncomfortable. He wasn't really sure what to do. The mare seemed very unhappy with his presence and didn't either want him there or she didn't want to be where she was anymore. Of course he would let her go but not just yet. He wanted to know more about the little dun painted mare. She was a pretty little thing yet her attitude had him stumped. He wanted to help her even though he knew she probably didn't want his help with anything.
The painted stud watched as the mares gaze fell. She no longer looked at him at all. He began to wonder about the mare. What she had been through. Laer was a very curious creature. He liked to learn especially about others. He was a fan of stories and he could listen to the lives of others for hours. His two toned eyes watched the pretty little mare as she stood so still. If she wanted to leave, why didn't she try? Why did she just stand there in what seemed like agony. She looked so unhappy. His ears twitched upon his crania, listening to the things around him but yet watching her. What was he to do? What could he do to help her, if he even could? Laer just didn't want her to be so unhappy and angry with him.
His words didn't seem to even help. After he spoke to her, this time, she began to back up, three steps. The distance between them grew. Laer didn't like that she was pushing him away. He didn't know what he did to make her already hate him without even knowing who he was. A frown appeared on his lips as he watched her, thinking hard. After moment of silence after his own tones rang out, the mares soon spoke out. Her tones cold and angry, snapping at his own. "Maybe I don't want to look, perhaps I know what's good for me." Her tail whipped around her, her eyes staring into him. "What's it to you anyway, huh?" The angry filled her. Ears twiched again, confused. "Apologies. I don't mean to anger you miss. I only wish to share the beauty of my home." His tones were saddened and gentle, quiet almost. He began to wonder if the mare would ever actually speak to him kindly and see that he just wanted to befriend her. "I understand not why you are angry with me or just angry in general. I only wish to make you feel welcome in my home." He paused, looking around and then back at the mare, "But if you are unhappy here already, then leave. I do not hold you here." Laer became rather upset that she would be so rude to him and he did nothing to her but show kindness. It rather irritated him but he kept his calm. Tail twitching, he watched her.
